Tikitag is preparing to expand its approach beyond RFID by introducing barcode tags this March.
These cost-effective barcodes will complement its existing RFID-based system for linking physical objects to online content.
Current Tikitag technology employs high-frequency RFID (13.56 MHz), creating a digital bridge between items like business cards or artwork and the web using passive tags and active readers.
This system is also inherently compatible with the Near Field Communication (NFC) standard found in many modern mobile phones.
Product manager Jeremy Declerq confirmed the move, noting that while adoption is strong, the price of RFID tags remains a financial barrier for some potential business applications, such as embedding tags in business cards.
